Ring-Billed Gull (Larus delawarensis)

It has a pearl grey back and a black stripe at the tip of the bill. It nests in noisy colonies, often by a lake or reservoir, although in winter it usually nests on the coast.

Habitat:

These birds frequent inland water reserviors. They can be found in areas with sandy terrain where vegetation is scarce. They can also be found where there are rocks and pieces of concrete, on stony beaches and sometimes in wetlands. Their preference for open areas makes them adaptable to urban and suburban landscapes and they are often found in large pastures, parking lots and on wasteland.

Diet:

They’re opportunistic omnivores and scavengers, so they’ll eat just about anything they find. They eat fish, rodents, small aquatic animals, bird and eggs and small chicks, insects and plant matter such as fruits, although they prefer foods of animal origin. This type of eating behavior has made them very successful in areas frequented by humans, feeding on landfills, garbage dumps, and boats that throw garbage overboard. They also search for food in fields, parks and parking lots, and are even able to collect food from the surface of the water as they fly.

Migratory bird with greater probability of sighting during winter and spring.
