
Belted kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon)
Tiene una cabeza grande con una cresta de plumas. Su pico robusto y largo es de color negro con una base gris. Esta ave tiene un dimorfismo sexual inverso, con la hembra de colores más brillantes que el macho.
Habitat:
It is located near continental or coastal bodies of water in most of Canada, Alaska and the United States. During the winter they migrate from the north of their range to the south of the United States, Mexico, Central America and the Antilles.
Diet:
It fishes from the top of a tree, pole, or other “observation point” near the water, before diving to catch primarily fish, although it also feeds on amphibians, small crustaceans, insects, small mammals, and reptiles.
Migratory bird with a presence mainly in winter and spring.
