Western grebe (Aechmophorus occidentalis)

This bird is commonly found from Canada to California, and sometimes in Mexico.

Habitat:

Reed lakes and swamps. In winter, bays, ocean; spends the summer in freshwater lakes with large areas of open water and swampy vegetation; on isolated occasions, it inhabits swamps with waves. Spends most of the winter in sheltered coastal bays or estuaries, as well as large freshwater lakes; rarely inhabits riparian areas.

Diet:

Mainly fish. Their diet is also known to include crustaceans, insects, polychaetes and salamanders.

Migratory bird with the highest probability of sighting in winter.

Location: Bodies of fresh water and lagoons.
