Wilson’s warbler (Wilsonia pusilla)

It is greenish above and yellow below, with rounded wings and a long, thin tail. The male has a black crown patch.

This small, lively bird actively moves in bushes and trees, often flipping its elongated tail as it leaps from branch to branch. It generally keeps itself in low in semi-open areas, avoiding dense forests.

Habitat:

It is a migratory species that nests in vast areas of Alaska, Canada and the east coast of the United States in thickets and shrubs near streams up to 11,500 feet in elevation. It winters mainly in Mexico and Central America where it uses many types of habitats, from lowland scrub near streams to high elevation forests.

Diet:

It feeds on insect larvae, spiders, beetles, and leaf and branch caterpillars. They also fly out and back from branches to catch flies, bees, mayflies, aphids, and other insects on leaves or in the air. They spend much of their time foraging for food in the lower and middle levels of the forest.

Migratory bird most likely to be seen in winter and early spring.
