Ocotillo –(Fouquieria splendens)
It has a shrub-like appearance formed from dry, greyish-colored erect sticks, and in the rainy season it has small, oval leaves. For most of the year, the plant appears to be a set of large dead chopsticks, although closer examination reveals that plant stems are partially green. The stems can reach a diameter of 5 centimeters at the base, and the plant can reach a height of 10 m. In Mexico it is used as fences that delimit the perimeter of a land.
Habitat:
In Mexico this native species is distributed from the central part of the north to the shoal and in the United States it is found in the southwest. It inhabits places with presence of thickets since it is a desert plant.
