Natal plum – (Carissa macrocarpa)

It is a woody shrub with abundant and gummy white sap, can reach a height of 4.5 to 5.5 m. and another as wide. The branches are armed with strong and formidable double spines up to 5 cm long. The fruit is round, oval or elongated, green and rich in latex when immature. As it matures, it becomes bright magenta-red and eventually ends in dark crimson, strawberry-flavored.
