Round Tailed Ground Squirrel (Ammospermophilus Leucurus)

It is a species of squirrel from North America, native to northwestern Mexico. It is easy to detect on rocky slopes in arid canyons and on broad sandy plains with thickets. It is an active species throughout the year, except in the northernmost regions of its distribution, where it decreases its activity during the winter.

HABITAT:

It seeks to be close to the water wells, it is located in the thicket forests of the desert and the open mountain in the areas of volcanic origin where cardons, choya, mesquites, palo blanco, elephant tree and lomboy vegetation dominates.

DIET:

It feeds on seeds, fruits, plant stems, roots and some insects and carrion.
