spiny rush, sharp rush, or sharp-pointed rush (Juncus acutus)

It is a dark green plant that forms 1.5-2 m tall tufts. The shape of the stems of which it is composed is cylindrical and pungent (causing pain), characteristic that gives name to the species and has flowering period from April to July.

It’s ideal habitat is a humid zone with a high salinity rate, soils with a surface water table, coastal sandy beaches, lagoon borders, wetlands, streams and waterlogged soils.
